The Bald Ibis

I was at a pizza party with my friends the other day and got sucked into reading a copy of the Guardian newspaper they had laying around. There were two really interesting articles. One was on the preservation of the semi colon and the other was on the bald ibis. The bald ibis is an odd and interesting bird because it seems to have evolved badly. It has a great migratory instinct but no sense of direction. Every year it migrates but can't seem to find it's way. They are also easily distracted and may end up on a beach somewhere forgetting to complete thier migration. I'm sure all this is a great metaphor for something or other.

How touching: poor, unfortunate creatures. Do they get lost together, or individually? As ever, what a wonderful drawing.

Thanks Sue! I think they do flock together and get lost together, so maybe it's not horrible. Depends who else is in the flock. Great photo of the Globe Theatre on one of your blogs. I'd love to there.

Thanks Anthony! It's like a choose ypour own metaphor game... More 'bots soon. I had to finish a project which took about a week along with moving. I want to get 2 or 3 pictures ahead of my posts.

Thanks Amy! That's a great idea. My wife has suggested I do that too but I think not knowing what to charge is keeping me from doing it.

It was a hilarious article. All about the French wanting to preserve the semi colon. The best bit was an April fools gag where a Paris paper printed an article stating that Sarkozy was implementing a law where people must include a minimum of 3 semi colons in all perconal correspondence. I have a big grin on my face as I write that. Someone in Paris is a genius( and that sounds like a funny understatement)

Thanks Marco! Me too! I just didn't want to tell people how much I'm like a bald ibis! It's embarrasing!

Well I was going to say that I was a bold ibis.. but it seems I'm not the only one!

So maybe this is it, we are all lost bold birds who found ourselves in the internet, formed a flock and continue to be lost.. but together. ;o)

Lost together. That's us!
Thanks Alicia!

It's a great metaphor for why you didn't draw us a beautiful semicolon is what it is.

He reminds me of the Dodo: he extincted because he didn't found a way to protect himself from predators. Another wondeful bird to draw, the dodo.

Thank you so much Candance!Your work is lovely, that's such high praise coming from you!

You solved the riddle Ben! I'm lazy and have a poor sense sense of direction.

Thanks JP!

Thanks Koldo! I looked through my old pictures and I have no Dodo pictures! I need to add a dodo!

Oh I remember that article! Birds migrating in cars!
Maybe they will evolve that way now - I just can't help imagining a whole flock of them catching a greyhound bus.

Thanks Viviane! Sadly the Ibis prefers SUV's thus hastening it's extinction.
