Mowgli And Balloo, A Proper Scan

This is a gouache painting I did some time ago but never got around to doing a proper scan of. I haven't posted a lot of painting lately so I thought this was a nice change of pace. I just had all my larger pieces scanned for my website.

I love this. I get this Jungle Book vibe from it. I don't know if that's what you were going for but I really like it. Good job :)

There are so many fantastic qualities in this painting I don't know where to start. First the composition really grabs you: that contrast and balance between the light area of the painting and the darker area. The overall appearance of Mowgli, he looks like you would think a feral child would look. The emotion that he displays is so fitting, it's a mixture of sadness, maybe even a little fear, even though he has his big friend to protect him. Maybe it's the vacant spot in his heart that yearns for his lost family. Balloo's fur is stylized but very much adds to the total mood. Have you done a children's book?
